Montgomery County is looking to institutionalize climate change into decision-making across a broad range of planning, policy and operations activities, to galvanize support across our organizations and key stakeholder communities, and build better climate change awareness and literacy within our departments and agencies, as well as the general public.

This four-part virtual training series is designed to build a foundational understanding of the risks and opportunities that climate change poses for Montgomery County, its business, residents and neighbors.  Participants will hear presentations from nationally and regionally recognized experts and state/Federal government officials, as well as engage in facilitated exercises and interactive discussions.

Program Objectives:

  • Understanding climate change and implications for local government operations

  • Examining climate change impacts and actions through a lens of public health and racial equity

  • Assessing change scenarios and leveraging public and private sector tools to inform decision-making

  • Reviewing public commitments made by Montgomery County and strategic planning objectives

  • Considering how climate change scenarios and extreme events will affect budgets, investment decisions and tax revenues

  • Analyzing climate change through a risk management framework, prioritizing actions and encouraging innovative solutions

  • Evaluating staffing, governance and interdepartmental collaboration to meet preparedness and stewardship objectives
