Florida Climate Fundamentals Academy (Workshop #1 of 2)

ACCO is offering a series of 2-day training academies in Orlando, Florida to help participants build competencies to effectively integrate climate change into their decision-making and professional activities. Leveraging a blended learning approach consisting of self-study online training and in-person cohort training, this series provides participants with training that will prepare them for Certified Climate Change Professional® (CC-P®) credential exams and will satisfy the corresponding elective requirements.

Held in partnership with the East Central Florida Regional Resilience Collaborative, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, and the City of Orlando, series participants will learn from experts about the implications of climate change with a regional focus added for Central Florida and the Sunshine State. Professionals from the public and private sectors, higher education and the NGO community will benefit from the classroom-style, interactive training activities. The classes are designed to provide participants with the following competencies:

Class #1 (August 1-2, 2019):

  • Day 1: Climate Science & Vulnerability Assessment

    • Climate-101: Understanding Climate Science & the Latest Projections

    • Climate-103: The Basics of Sea Level Rise and Impacts on Coastal Assets & Infrastructure

    • Climate-104: Public Health Implications of Climate Change

    • Climate-201: Identifying Climate Hazards & Conducting Vulnerability Assessments

    • Climate-202: Leveraging Climate Data & Tools

  • Day 2: GHG, Energy & Water Management

    • GHG-101: Basics of GHG Accounting, Reporting & Disclosing GHG Emissions

    • GHG-102: Fundamentals of the Energy-Water-Food Nexus

    • GHG-201: Establishing GHG Reduction Goals & GHG Management Structures

Class #2 (September 5-6, 2019):

  • Day 3: Governance, Law & Policy

    • Governance-101: Engaging Stakeholders & Establishing Early Strategies for Leading Organizational Change

    • Governance-102: The Legal/Policy Landscape of Climate Change & Related Implications

    • Governance-103: Ethics, Liability & Professionalism

    • Governance-203: Collaborating Beyond Organizational & Institutional Boundaries

    • Case Study: Mapping Preparedness in Key Decision-Making Roles

  • Day 4: Materiality, Risk Management & Economics

    • Economics-101: The Economics of Climate Change

    • Economics-201: Assessing Economic Impacts

    • Enterprise-101: Fundamentals of Risk & Materiality

    • Enterprise-201: Analyzing & Managing Climate Risk
